Jeff Young, UBC, November 4, 2019, 14:00, "Photonic quantum computing".
A variety of quantum computing strategies have been proposed that rely in one way or another on photons with wavelengths in the visible to mid infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Some of these strategies involve using photonic states themselves as qubits, while others incorporate photons to mediate the interaction between physical qubits, and/or to measure the state of physical qubits. This talk will offer a general review of these strategies, and then provide a more detailed view of the integrated silicon photonic circuits that a team of researchers from UBC and SFU are developing to implement a cavity quantum electrodynamic architecture where photons interact with spin qubits associated with impurity states in silicon.
