Donor atom spin-based qubits in silicon photonic resonators

Quantum silicon photonics: Using the relatively mature silicon photonics technology, and very mature CMOS electronics technology, we are aiming to implement a quantum computer. We are using a cavity quantum electrodynamics (cQED) approach with single atoms implanted in silicon as qubits, 4K cryogenic operation in vacuum, mid-IR wavelengths, single photon sources and detectors, and nano-electro-mechanical systems (NEMS). We are quickly assembling a world-class team to tackle this immense challenge.

Our research (in collaboration with SFU’s Silicon Quantum Technology lab) is aimed at implementing a quantum computing architecture based on spins and silicon photonics, as described in these articles:

A Photonic Platform for Donor Spin Qubits in Silicon

A Quantum Computer Architecture Based on Silicon Donor Qubits Coupled by Photons

It involves:

  1. Photonic crystal cavities, with high Q, tunable, at 2.9 µm (CLEO 2018)
  2. Single photon sources
    1. Using carrier injection PIN with a defect inside as an emitter
    2. Non-linearities in resonators, spontaneous four-wave mixing (GFP 2019)
  3. Single photon detectors (Nature)
